Engine 23


2001 Ford F-550

Engine 23 (former Engine 23-2) is an attack pumper that seats 5 firefighters and is now responsible for handling all automatic fire alarm activations and structure fires until the arrival of the new ladder truck, which will be a combination pumper/ladder truck. Engine 23 also responds to vehicle accidents, vehicle fires, medic assists, and smaller fires such as dumpster fires, brush fires, and rubbish fires.

Squad 23


1994 Ford F-350

Squad 23 seats 5 firefighters and primarily responds as a manpower truck used to transport additional firefighters to any type of incident. However, this unit most commonly assists Engine 23 on vehicle accidents considering the many traffic control supplies and accident clean-up material that it carries. In addition, the squad automatically responds on all incidents warranting the use of the salvage unit.

1989 Dodge Ram 350

The Hempfield Township Salvage Unit (Salvage 500), is primarily responsible for serving two functions: to pump water out of a flooded building and to assist with salvage, overhaul, and general clean up following a structure fire.

2009 Trailer

The storm response unit is the newest addition to the fire department's growing salvage operation. The storm response trailer is available to any community/fire department in Westmoreland County during times of severe weather such as flooding and tornados.

2009 Chevrolet Suburban

Chief 23 drives a 2009 Chevrolet Suburban which carries an array of hand tools, forcible entry tools, and basic medical equipment amongst other items. The Chief's vehicle also carries extra firefighting gear, an Airpack, a CO detector, and fire extinguishers.
