The Carbon Fire Department is designated as the primary fire and rescue service for a suburban area encompassing five square miles of central Hempfield Township centrally located in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. The Carbon Fire District (District 23) protects approximately 8,000 people living within its jurisdiction. This highly developed area includes subdivisions and other new housing developments, a sprawling retail/shopping/commercial district, and several major thoroughfares carrying thousands of motorists each day.

- State Route 136 (West Newton Road) - from Route 30 interchange to J.A.S. Professional Center (approx. 3 miles)
Retail/Commercial Areas
- Greengate Centre (includes Walmart supercenter, Petco, JoAnne Fabrics, Courtyard by Marriott Hotel, and numerous restaurants and other retail stores)
- Greengate East & Greengate Commons (includes Big Lots and Gabriel Brother's, as well as multiple restaurants, banks, and retail shops)
- Lincoln Place (includes Walgreen's and several other stores and restaurants)
- J.A.S. Professional Center (includes professional offices and a branch of Carlow University)
- Frederickson Place and Henry Office Commons (professional offices)

- Teppco (refined products, crude oil, natural gas, liquefied petroleum gases, and petrochemicals)
Carbon Fire Department is also responsible for providing mutual aid assistance to neighboring communities whenever needed. Carbon will most commonly be called to assist Fort Allen (Station 104), the City of Greensburg (Station 79), South Greensburg Borough (Station 32), and Southwest Greensburg Borough (Station 24). However, Carbon will often respond to other parts of Hempfield Township as needed or when requested.
