The Carbon volunteers were awakened around 2:30AM on Sunday, July 18th, 2010 for an early morning house fire in the Wendel section of Hempfield Township. The salvage unit and the squad truck responded to assist at the scene. Once Command 10 (Adamsburg) determined that the house was vacant and nobody was inside, crews performed an exterior attack due to heavy fire conditions and instability of the structure, while Ladder 6 (Fairmount-Hahntown) provided an aerial attack on the fire.
As a majority of the fire was brought under control, Command 10 requested assistance from the Hempfield Township Public Works Department in the form of heavy machinery in order to demolish what remained of the unstable structure. After the house was demolished and the remaining hot spots were extinguished, the final units remaining on the scene were permitted to clear and return. Salvage 500 and Squad 23 were back in Carbon by 5:00AM.
